home refurbishment

New year brings ideas for home refurbishment – what will you do this year?

Have you put the Christmas decorations away? House is all nice and tidy again, but it looks different some how. You keep looking around and wonder what was there before. You get so used to all the Christmas paraphernalia that once it is away your brain misses it. It makes you wonder if you should do something new to your home. This is the time of year where people start thinking about moving or what home refurbishment they can complete.

If money and planning permission was no object what would you do to your home?

  • Extension?
  • Orangery?
  • New windows and doors?

There are many ways that you could improve the look and feel of your home without needing to do huge amounts of building work. Bifold doors or sliding doors are a great way to change the look of your home, and allow you to incorporate your garden and patio into your home.

Sliding doors offer you a greater view as the glass panes are bigger than bifold doors, and therefore your view is less obstructed. However, when opened sliding doors will block part of the opening to your home.

It is here that bifold doors come into their own, the panes are smaller and therefore your view includes the frames when the doors are closed, but when open bifold doors really do open up your living space offering seamless entry into the garden.

Which should you choose when you are doing your home refurbishment?

It might seem initially that it is too difficult to choose which style of doors you should have, but you just need to ask yourself a few questions and you can make the right decision for you and your family.

What kind of views do I want?

Think about how you want to be able to see out of the windows. Sliding doors will give you a better view with less frame when closed, but bifolds will open more allowing a greater view when open.

How often will I need to use the doors?

Will you want to open the doors fully only when entertaining or will you need to think about a traffic door in your plans? Bifold doors open in pairs so an uneven number of doors will allow for a traffic door. This door will allow quick and easy access through without having to fully fold all the panels.

Who will need to use the doors?

Do you have a pet that might need to come in and out? Would leaving the door slightly open be an option you would want? Then sliding doors will be better for you.
