bifold door opening

What bifold door opening do you need?

You have decided that you are getting bifold doors, you know which wall they are replacing, but have you decided on which bifold door opening style you want?

It should be simple shouldn’t it? You just need to put a key in and the doors open. But bifolds aren’t that straightforward, and you can choose your bifold door opening style.

One of the best things about bifold doors is their flexibility and their ability to be built exactly to your needs. So you can decide exactly how many panes of glass you want, and which way they open.

Bifold door openings can be down the middle, to the left or to the right.

Which bifold door opening is right for you?

  • open inside or out

You need to speak to your bifold door company and get them to look at the space that you want to use. They will be able to advise you on where to have a traffic door, how many panes to have, and which way they should open.

Open to the left, right or in the middle?

The layout of your home will play a big part in the bifold door opening style that you choose. If the doors are installed into a room that already contains a lot of furniture this will affect how the doors are opened and stacked.

Maybe your garden has a nice decked area in the middle. You might want your bifold doors to open in the middle so you can step straight onto the decking.

Alternatively, you might need to use one pane daily to get in and out. This would mean that a traffic door would be your best choice, and having a single door that opens easily should be included in your plan.

Should your bifold door opening go inside or outside?

Bifold doors can be stacked inside or outside of your home. How you use your space will help decide which is best for you. Think about who will be using the space the most. Will you have children playing out a lot of the time? If so, a set of bifold doors that stack inside will keep the doors safely away from loose footballs and running children.

Finally, do your want your bifold doors in a room with a lot of furniture? Here it would be better for the doors to fold outwards. Stacking outside the house will leave you all the space possible inside the room.
